About Working With Us

What we do, who we do it for, and how we structure an engagement.

A management consultant helps leadership teams solve problems they don't have the internal bandwidth, objectivity, or specialized expertise to solve alone — whether that's a stalled growth plan, a leadership gap, a sales team that's underperforming, or an organization that has outgrown its own systems. At North & Noble, we work across four core areas: Leadership Development, Organizational Strategy, Sales and Marketing Excellence, and Talent Architecture. Rather than handing you a slide deck and walking away, we build practical, implementable plans and stay engaged through execution.

We specialize in small to mid-market organizations — typically businesses that have moved past the earliest startup phase and are dealing with the complexity that comes with real scale: multiple departments, layered leadership, and growth that has started to outpace their existing infrastructure. This is a segment that's often underserved: too large for a generalist coach, but not the priority client of a global firm charging seven figures for a strategy engagement.

We also work with funded startups — companies that have raised capital and now need to build the organizational backbone (leadership structure, org design, talent architecture) to support the growth that funding is meant to fuel. Capital solves a cash problem; it doesn't solve a structure problem, and that's often where we come in.

Large global firms are built for enterprise-scale engagements, with pricing and staffing models to match — often junior teams executing a senior partner's framework. We built North & Noble specifically for mid-market leaders who want senior-level strategic thinking without the overhead, the multi-month sales cycle, or the cookie-cutter framework. You work directly with experienced operators who've actually run businesses, not just advised on them.

Both. Our engagement model has three tiers so you can choose the level of involvement that matches your need:

  • Advisory — periodic strategic counsel for leaders who need a sounding board and outside perspective
  • Engaged — active, ongoing partnership on a defined initiative or set of initiatives
  • Embedded — deep, hands-on involvement where we function as an extension of your leadership team

We'll help you identify which tier fits based on the scope and urgency of what you're solving for.

Getting Started

How to tell whether it's time, and what the first steps look like.

A few common signals: growth has stalled or plateaued despite effort; leadership is spending more time firefighting than planning; you've made a major change (acquisition, leadership transition, new market, or a funding round) and need a structured approach to it; or you simply don't have anyone internally with the bandwidth or expertise to tackle a specific strategic problem. For funded startups specifically, the signal is often that headcount and complexity have outpaced the informal, founder-led structure that got you this far. If any of that sounds familiar, it's usually worth a conversation.

It starts with a discovery conversation — we take the time to understand your business, your leadership team, and the specific challenge or opportunity in front of you before proposing anything. From there, we scope a recommendation and, if it's a fit, put together a formal Scope of Services outlining deliverables, timeline, and investment.

It depends entirely on scope. A focused advisory engagement (for example, a go-to-market strategy or a leadership assessment) might run 4–8 weeks. A deeper organizational strategy or talent architecture engagement can run several months. We'll always give you a defined timeline upfront rather than an open-ended retainer with no end in sight.

Our four-pillar framework is industry-agnostic by design — leadership gaps, organizational strategy, sales performance, and talent structure are challenges every small to mid-market company faces, regardless of sector. We bring particular depth in:

  • Franchise operations and multi-unit business
  • Consumer and home services
  • E-commerce
  • Media
  • Education
  • Retail
  • Manufacturing
  • Real estate
  • Construction

If your industry isn't listed here, don't rule us out — the underlying operational and leadership challenges we solve for tend to look similar across sectors. Reach out and we'll tell you honestly whether we're the right fit.

03

Investment & ROI

How we think about cost, value, and the outcomes we hold ourselves to.

Pricing depends on scope, tier, and duration — there's no one-size-fits-all number, and we'd rather give you an honest range after a real conversation about your needs than a generic figure that doesn't reflect the work. What we can tell you is that our pricing is structured specifically for small to mid-market budgets, not enterprise ones — you're investing in senior-level strategic thinking without paying overhead built for Fortune 500 clients.

Global demand for outside advisory support has stayed strong even as companies scrutinize spending — current buying activity across the industry is concentrated on initiatives with a defined, measurable payoff (margin improvement, pricing, targeted growth) rather than open-ended transformation work. That mirrors how we approach engagements: every project is scoped around a specific business outcome, so the return on investment is something you can point to, not just a feeling.

Small and mid-sized companies specifically have become one of the faster-growing segments of the consulting market, largely because more affordable, flexible engagement models have made outside expertise accessible to companies that couldn't previously justify a global firm's fees. That shift is part of why a firm like North & Noble exists — to bring senior-level strategic thinking to a segment that's historically been priced out of it.

Every engagement is ultimately designed to drive a return on your investment — whether that shows up as revenue growth, cost or margin improvement, faster decision-making, reduced turnover, or a leadership structure that lets you scale without breaking. A sales process that converts better, an org chart that matches how the business actually runs, a talent pipeline that stops leaking — these are the mechanisms, but the outcome we're accountable to is ROI. We build measurement into the scope from day one so you know exactly what “done well” looks like, in dollars and outcomes, before we start.

Working Together

What the partnership feels like once the work is underway.

A senior consultant is assigned to your engagement and stays involved as your primary point of contact from start to finish — the person who scopes the work is the person accountable for it. That senior consultant is supported by a team of junior associates and coordinators who handle research, analysis, and execution details, which keeps the work moving efficiently without inflating your cost. You always know who's leading your engagement; you're never quietly handed off.

That's a very common starting point, and it's exactly what the discovery process is for. Part of our job is helping you accurately diagnose the issue before we start prescribing solutions — sometimes what looks like a sales problem is actually a leadership or structural problem underneath it.

Yes — that's the model. We're not here to run your company; we're here to bring outside expertise, structure, and accountability to help your existing team execute better. The Embedded tier gets closest to day-to-day involvement, but even then, decisions stay with you.

Reach out through our contact page to schedule a discovery conversation. There's no cost or obligation for that initial call — it's simply a chance for us to understand your business and for you to see if we're the right fit.
